Eglise Saint Christophe
EGLISE SAINT CHRISTOPHE
39380 CHISSEY-SUR-LOUE
Built at the end of the 12th century and in the 13th century, then transformed in the 15th and 18th centuries, it was classified as a historical monument in 1840
Its particularity comes from its interior cornice decorated with mouldings, foliage and human heads with pathological features called "Baboons". These represent the mentally ill who were brought here every year during the pilgrimage of Saint Christopher, patron saint of travellers and ferrymen, so that he could bring them back from their world to ours
Free visit every day from 9 am to 8 pm in summer and from 9 am to 6 pm in winter
